Sudan: Attack on Al-Daein Hospital Cripples Care for Hundreds of Thousands
The situation in East Darfur has reached a catastrophic tipping point. The Al-Daein teaching hospital, a critical healthcare pillar supported by CARE, was targeted in an attack that left 64 people dead, including 13 children and 3 medical staff. Another 89 individuals sustained severe injuries.
The destruction of this facility means that approximately 876,000 people in the region have lost access to their only functioning medical services and a vital stabilization center for malnourished children. Nationwide, 80% of Sudan’s healthcare facilities are now non-functional, exacerbating the suffering of over 11 million displaced people.

Lebanon &Syria: Regional Escalation and Massive Exodus
Lebanon has become the epicenter of the current wave of violence in the Middle East. More than 460,000 people have been displaced to date, with new evacuation orders in densely populated areas of Beirut affecting an additional 700,000 residents (nearly one-third of the city).
The country’s shelter system is under intense strain: out of 428 activated collective shelters, 90% are already at full capacity. The crisis is spilling across borders, with over 15,000 people fleeing into Syria. CARE is responding with emergency cash assistance, food, and hygiene services to prevent disease outbreaks in overcrowded shelters.
"Panic is spreading across Lebanon," says Michael Adams, CARE Country Director. "Main roads out of the city are completely blocked. Homes and hospitals are being cleared as quickly as possible, and CARE has already begun distributing water while preparing for a sharp increase in needs."
