The new school year is set to kick off at the International School of Brno!

ISB is ready to start the new school year with classes set to resume on Wednesday, September 1. This year, teachers in grades 1 through 9 will be native English speakers from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. The school expects enrollment to be up slightly from last year with 8 to 10 students per class. ISB is proud to have students ages 3 to 15 from roughly 20 different countries in attendance this year.

News from the International School of Brno

Currently, the International School of Brno has roughly 60 registered students in the kindergarten and grades 1 through 9 from 20 different countries (children from 3 to 15 years old).

International School of Brno to be opened on September 1, 2009

The very first international school in Brno will launch on September 1, 2009.  The International School of Brno (ISB) expects to enroll between 100 and 120 pupils ranging from 3 to 16 years of age in kindergarten and grades 1 through 9.  The teaching staff at ISB will consist predominantly of native English speakers or highly qualified English-speaking Czech teachers, all of whom excel in inspiring and engaging with the student body which consists of children from around the world (including Czech nationals).  All subjects will be taught in English with the exception of additional languages (including Czech).  Tuition is expected to be within the usual range for international schools in Czech Republic (between 150 000 and 200 000 CZK per student, per year).  In order to ensure that students and parents are satisfied with the educational services provided by ISB, the school plans to operate in close cooperation with the parents of students by establishing a Parents' Council as well as having parents sit on the Supervisory Board.

Autumn was showing us its unkind face when we set out on our journey to Brno on 16 October. The rain was pouring down, but the participants seemed not to worry about it at all, at least not those travelling on a bus chartered by our colleagues from the German Chamber of Commerce, who co-organized the event with us. Most of us arrived just in time to be welcomed by the representative of the Starobrno Brewery, who gave those interested a guided tour through the brewery. Thereafter, the participants, members of the Netherlands-Czech and the German Chambers of Commerce, were invited to a restaurant to enjoy 3 different kinds of beer produced at Starobrno.

With regards to extending our activities in Moravia, we joined the event “Roundtable with the Mayor of Brno, Roman Onderka”, organized by the AmCham for members of both Chambers. The meeting was held on 7 February, 2008 in the hotel Holiday Inn Brno.
