Jan van Dam appointed President and CEO of Albert

Jan van Dam has been appointed President and CEO of Albert, with effect from August 10, 2009. Jan was previously General Manager of Etos. Jan succeeded Johan Boeijenga, who has decided to leave the company to pursue a career outside Ahold in the Netherlands.

Jan (37) joined Albert Heijn in 1996 as a management trainee and has held a number of key positions at the company, including General Manager of Gall&Gall. Under Jan's leadership, Etos achieved significant growth, it opened its 500th store last year and been named the best drugstore in the Netherlands by consumers in both 2008 and 2009. In his new role, Jan will be located in Prague with his wife and four children.

Jan was succeeded at Etos by Jan Willem Koch (39), who was previously Unit Manager Fresh Produce at Albert Heijn. Before joining the company in 2007, Jan Willem worked in the international branded consumer goods industry in a range of brand and marketing roles, among others at Sara Lee/Douwe Egberts and Unilever.

Johan Boeijenga joined Ahold in 1988, also as a management trainee. He gained experience in logistics and supply chain management at Albert Heijn and served as CEO of Ahold's former operations in Indonesia. In 2003, he was appointed EVP Supply Chain at Albert Heijn, part of the team that drove the successful repositioning of the company, and was appointed President and CEO of Ahold's operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2006.

Dick Boer, Chief Operating Officer Ahold Europe, said: "I would like to thank Johan for his enormous contribution and achievements in over 20 years working for Ahold. Since 2006, he managed the restructuring and rebranding of our business in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. On behalf of the Corporate Executive Board and everyone at Ahold, I wish Johan and his family all the best for the future. I also wish both Jan and Jan Willem success in their new roles."

Johan Boeijenga said about his decision: "I spent wonderful part of my life over last almost 3 years in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Now I have decided to move on in my professional life in the Netherlands. It was not an easy decision but I feel it is time for change. I wish Jan van Dam lots of success."
