On April 26, 2012 Mitas, a specialist Czech manufacturer of off-road tires (agricultural, industrial, motorcycle), opened its newest radial farm tire factory in Charles City, the city which coined the word “tractor.” Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, Charles City Mayor James Erb and Mitas representatives Tomas Nemec and Oldrich Slemr cut the ribbon to start serial production of farm tires. Mitas announced it would accelerate its $52 million investment to achieve the full production capacity of 13,500 metric tons of tires a year by 2013, which is three years earlier than originally anticipated.

The newly opened plant makes all common agricultural tire sizes and will eventually produce sizes of up to diameter and width. The last curing press will be installed by mid- April, the factory employed 76 full-time employees recruited locally, and by 2013 the plant will employ 237 local residents.

Tebodin Czech Republic has worked on this project based on previous cooperation with Mitas in the Czech Republic and Serbia. The scope included the development of conceptual, basic and detailed engineering for process utilities and consultancy during the construction stage. Tebodin has combined its own engineers with production experts from Mitas.

Tebodin Czech Republic is an independent engineering and consultancy company that is part of the international Tebodin network comprising more than 50 offices in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa, and with a turnover of € 223 million (2011). It has a long track record in design and engineering and continues in its best tradition that dates to the 1950s.
